Elementary School
Goal
The elementary school presentation aims to develop an understanding of what the Internet is, how it behaves, and the various characteristics that it has which we must be aware of when online. Kiwi Seminars goal is to have students understand that the Internet is a shared space, once we post something online we cannot take it back, not everyone online is a friend, and that we all must use the Internet responsibly.
Topics
Our elementary school presentation can be tailored based on audience or special requests but typically covers the following topics:
- How the Internet operates
- What students are doing online: common and popular activities and what they can really involve
- The risks associated with these online activities, which include:
- Guidelines on how to protect themselves while online
Approach
Students learn how the Internet operates, and it's characteristics through a cartoon characterization of the Internet. Utilizing videos, interactive activities, and visual cases, we proactively focus on educating on the risks of cyberbullying and cyber predators. Students develop the ability to make the most informed decisions possible while using the Internet for the activities they enjoy.
